Deforestation
Deforestation is the removal of a forest or stand of trees from land which is then converted to a
non-forest use. The most concentrated deforestation occurs in tropical rainforests. Deforestation is also
the cutting or burning of all tress in an environment Deforestation is the continous removed of forest
stands either by bush burning or indiscriminate felling without replacing them
Deforestation can involve conversion of forest land to farms, ranches, or urban use
Causes of Deforestation
- Cutting of trees for the purpose of construction of houses and industries.
- Expansion of town or villages.
- Construction of new roads through forest trees.
- Trees are cut for cultivation of crops.
- When trees are use for fuel wood.
Effects of deforestation
- Deforestation exposes the land surface to erosion
- Loss of organic matter matter and soil fertility
- It decresses transpiration
- It increases soil erosion
- It leads to deterioration of environment

- Afforestation
- Planting of trees should be encouraged
- Legislation against indiscriminate felling of trees
- Development of other sources of fuel e.g gas and kerosine
