Drug trafficking
The word trafficking refers to the buying and selling of illegal goods. Drug trafficking is a very serious offense all over the world. Howerver, sentencing often depends on the type of drugs, the quantity trafficked, where the drugs are sold and how they are distributed.
Drug trafficking is a global illegal trade that involves the production, distribution and sale of substance that are subject to drug prohibition laws. Drug abuse also means the buying and selling of hard drugs eg: herione marijuana, iodine etc
Causes of Drug trafficking
- Poverty
- Pear group influence
- Unemployment
- Greedyness
- Lack of parental care
Effects of drug trafficking
- It leads to an increase in criminal activities
- It might lead to sentence to death (In countries like Dubai and Saudi Arabia)
- It causing permanent physical and emotional damage to users of the product
- it negatively impacts the families of the users
- It leads to commiting criminal activites
- Another important period in Nigeria's war on drugs was the Decree No. 20 of 1984 which proscribed the death penalty for all those involved in drugs trafficking. However, due to public outcry this law was adjusted to between two years and life imprisonment, depending on the offence
Preventions of drug trafficking
- Youths should have a great ambition for their future
- Youths shuold know the kinds of freinds to associate themselves with
- Be ready to say no, politely to any one that may want you to involve in trafficking or taking hard drug
- Government should also sponsor public enlightenment campains on the effects of drug trafficking
- Youths should involve themselves in positive amd intresting activities like sport, debate and drama etc
- Drug traffickers should be punished severely
